Award Description
Project Description:
The nine-story CARE building is an exploration of scale and composition utilizing a simple material palette of brick, zinc shingles and high performance glass. The mass is broken into three lab blocks, each set askew from the others, reducing the overall impact of the structure. The striking exterior design of bold geometric forms reflects innovation and is as forward-looking as the research being performed on the interior.
Jury Comment:
Oftentimes large projects are overlooked given the external constraints the architect is working under. This project achieves a balance of simple forms and geometry. Combine texture to the formal composition and the building achieves a great architectural image.
