Description

Design Program: Byce & Associates, Inc.,  provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the renovation of the existing court house into office and conference spaces for the new Barry County Friend of the Court.  The work required extensive demolition of existing walls and ceilings, and construction of new interior spaces.  New lighting was provided reminiscent of the lighting originally installed in the building.  This lighting was selected for energy conservation and to  enhance visual tasks.  Heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems were added to this building to be energy efficient and to provide a comfortable environment for employees and clients.

Design Challenges:  The existing court house was outdated due to the age of the facility. Virtually none of the existing mechanical or electrical systems were adequate for a modern office environment, requiring the complete replacement of all mechanical and electrical systems. The owner's requirement to maintain the historical perspective of the building also was a design challenge.
