East Grand Rapids MI View Map Project Phase: Complete Budget: $7,700,000

Descriptions

Cox Medendorp Olson Architects

The East Grand Rapids Community Center is located on scenic Reeds Lake. This project involved almost a complete reconstruction of the existing city hall and library facilities. Two existing buildings and an old water reservoir have been combined into one large, picturesque facility.

The facility has received LEED Certification from the United States Green Building Council. In order to qualify, construction waste was recycled and FSC Certified wood components, low VOC paints, cork floors and sun shades were installed.

The facility received the 2007 award for Outstanding Facility Design from the Michigan Recreation & Park Association; and also an Award of Excellence from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Western Michigan.

Triangle Associates

This project involved a nearly complete reconstruction of the existing city hall and library facilities. Two existing buildings and an old water reservoir were combined into one large facility.

Along the waterfront, a boardwalk offers the residents a pleasant place to walk, fish and enjoy the scenery. Residents can dock their boats near the boardwalk and access the library via the lake. A roof-top garden offers a panoramic oasis for reading and picnics. The facility has received LEED Certification. In order to qualify, construction waste was recycled and FSC Certified wood components, low VOC paints, cork floors and photovoltaic sun shades were installed.

The East Grand Rapids Public Safety Building, adjacent to the project site, remained open throughout construction and our project team coordinated closely with the authorities. The Triangle team saved East Grand Rapids approximately $62,000 through value engineering ideas.

"Triangle Associates Inc. has done an outstanding job on completing the new East Grand Rapids Community Center. Our gem on the lake will shine for years to come."

- Cindy Bartman, Mayor of East Grand Rapids
