The Ryerson Library

Description

Owen-Ames-Kimball Co. has a long-standing relationship with the Grand Rapids Public Library. We served as general contractor on the original Ryerson building, the 1967 addition and for the restoration and renovation completed in 2003. Imported Italian marble. Intricate ceiling moldings. Rich wall colors and wood accents. Soaring atriums. Curved towers and interior walls. Expansive windows for natural light. The results of the restoration and the renovation of the Main Library are dramatic. Renovations to the Main Library included tripling the size of the children’s area, replacing all of the building’s major mechanical systems, reopening the Ryerson Building for public use and making improvements to the building’s exterior. The Ryerson Library Project Details - 180 tons, or 2400 cubic yards of poured concrete required 44 tons of steel to provide critical support - Incorporated 13,000 SF of glass - 36,000 stones were used to create the new façade on the renovated 1967 addition
