Description

This 18,000 square foot addition provided a new swimming pool and multi-purpose facility for the existin Boys and Girls Club. The new lap pool serves as a community focal point, while the existing pool serves as a seniors' therapeutic pool and children's play pool. Passive solar and mechanical/electrical energy-efficient design has resulted in lowered maintenance and operational costs.

The distinct building envelope is a community focal point, and is conveniently accessible by a ramp into the water; a small hydro pool is located next to the swimming pool.

The new construction included: a 25m x 11m pool, new change rooms, washrooms, a mechanical room, a 2-story glass rotunda at the entrance, a new parking area and landscaping.

The Aquaplex's existing site contained several large buried fuel tanks that remained on the site after old factories were demolished. These still-full oil tanks were removed and their contents disposed, while not affecting our site work schedule.

The pool area ventilation system uses the latest technology that transfers excess heat from either the pool water into the air, or air to pool water, all while keeping the pool environment at a constant temperature and humidity level.

The pool and whirlpool water filtration systems included state of the art Ultra-Violet systems donated by Trojan Technologies of London. These systems help lower the chlorine levels in the water while elimating all of the viruses that withstand other treatments.
