Description
Kiewit-EllisDon, a Partnership (KED) began work on the Enterprise Simcoe Promenade Phase 2 (ESP-2) project in September 2009. It was a pilot project of York Region's VivaNext plan, which provides a network of several dedicated rapid-ways across York Region, beginning with: the east-west Highway 7 rapid-way from Highway 50 in Vaughan to Reesor Road in Markham, the north-south Yonge Street rapid-way from the Richmond Hill Centre Terminal in Richmond Hill to Green Lane in Newmarket, and the east-west Davis Drive rapid-way from Yonge Street to the Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket (www.vivanext.com)
The ESP-2 project involved the new construction of an 830m long by 7m wide stretch of rapid-way that runs beside Enterprise Boulevard in Markham between Warden Avenue and Birchmount Road. The work included the installation of two signalized intersections with transit priority and the construction of a newly designed Viva station at Warden Avenue. The station consists of two 55m long platforms, complete with 28m long curved glass canopies.
