Description

First Canadian Place is an existing 72-storey, Class AAA commercial office tower with a two-storey podium, and is an icon building within the downtown Toronto business district. Built in the 1970's with an impressive white marble cladding, the exterior skin of the building has now weathered to the point that the owners have undertaken a re-cladding program that will revitalize the exterior and provide sustainable life to the building. The revitalization includes the Tower, the Podium and the renovation of the interior lobby.

The work on the 65,000 square foot interior lobby renovation started December 1, 2010 and is scheduled to be completed May 31, 2012. This area has a daily traffic of 50,000 people, therefore work has to be completed in phases to prevent the disruption of the high traffic. The phases were planned to provide access at all times to the offices. Some work is scheduled for weekends only, while other portions of the work are planned for night shifts.

The work mainly includes the removal of old light fixtures and patching the marble behind it. The scope of work also includes the addition of stone clad security desks, stone clad doors, glass guardrails, stainless steel handrails, stainless steel caps to existing glass guardrails. Also included is the removal of planters and carpet flooring to replace with white epoxy terrazzo, demolition of the gypsum soffits and replace with new soffits and light fixtures.
