Surrey Memorial Hospital
The Integrated Team Solutions consortium, comprised of EllisDon Corporation, in conjunction with Fengate Capital Management Ltd., has successfully reached financial close on the Surrey Memorial Hospital Critical Care Tower (SMH CCT) design, build, finance, maintain project in British Columbia. In addition to its involvement in the financing arrangements for this project, EllisDon will provide all services related to the design and construction of the facility.
The SMH CCT project will add 151 acute care beds to the Surrey Memorial Hospital campus, growing it to a 650-bed regional hospital by 2014. This expansion includes a new Emergency Department that is designed to accommodate the various emergency patient groups that are currently being treated on the campus, and it will also have dedicated space for the treatment of pediatric patients, mental health patients and covered access for emergency vehicles. The Emergency Department is expected to be turned over to Fraser Health Authority in 2013, while the rest of the tower is slated for 2014.
Other new and expanded areas of the CCT include the NICU, ICU, Medical-Surgical Unit, High Acuity Unit and Laboratory. The delivery of this project by EllisDon, in partnership with the Fraser Health Authority, is a tremendous advancement for the Surrey Memorial Hospital campus and for the health services for the residents of Surrey and other Fraser Health communites.
The project is being developed to LEED(r) Gold standard and will incorporate the use of wood, where appropriate, in keeping with the B.C. Wood First Act. Both of these elements have influenced the EllisDon design and architecture, including the design's use of wood and glass to accentuate the campus new front door.
