Auburn Hills, Michigan

Sited on the southeastern ridge of an expansive, wooded, hilly, landscape of 64 acres; Oakland Christian schools seeks a classroom, multipurpose and media center addition to their existing facility.  Identifying a need for a fresh organization of function within the school, the concept seeks to redefine existing classrooms as secondary education and provide a new classroom wing for the elementary school.  Allowing the new construction to enrich and evolve from the unique landscape, the buildings are articulated separate from one another, defining a clear organization.  The interstitial space between buildings becomes the circulatory nerve center and an informal space for congregating.  The space contained by glass between programmatic structures allows views through the building from all site axial positions, enriching the site experience with a constant frame of reference within and outside the architecture.
