Description

This new construction project is being built in two separate phases:

• Phase 1 is scheduled for completion in August 2012. This portion of the project will house the 11th grade students during the 2012-2013 school year.

• Phase 2 will hold all remaining grades and will be complete just in time for the 2013-2014 school year.

Since opening its doors to a single grade level (6th grade) in 2007, UPrep has operated out of temporary spaces. Classes are currently being held at the former City High building in Grand Rapids’ Heritage Hill area. The school has added one grade each year and will be fully operational for grades 6-12 when this new construction project is complete.

The school design is centered around project-based learning spaces called “advisories,” in place of traditional classrooms. Shared enclaves and project zones will be provided between each advisory, to promote collaboration. Other unique features include polished concrete floors in all common areas and super-insulated wall panels in the second and third story portions of the building.

The proven school model that UPrep has adopted has achieved 90%+ high school graduation rates and 90%+ post-secondary enrollment rates. The success of this school model is its commitment to educating “one child at a time” featuring a high touch/high tech focus and creating a culture and environment of inclusivity, innovation and diversity.
