Description

In mid September 2011 the exterior restoration at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish finally began. O-A-K conducted a facilities evaluation with Cox Medendorp Olson Architects in 2007, and discovered that, among many things, the bandaid repairs made to the exterior of the building were in great need of proper restoration.

In the assessment, we ranked all of the building issues in order of necessity. For example, missing or broken pieces of the terra cotta trim are more vital to the building's integrity than areas of mismatched mortar.

Unfortunately, the cost of all recommended repairs is $4.6 million - well beyond the Parish's budget. So they decided that the bell towers were top priority. The Parish was able to come up with an astounding $775,000 for the  project and construction.

Project scope included major brick replacement, tuck-pointing, new flashing, EPDM roofing replacement, structural steel replacement, terra cotta repairs and replacement, copper dome replacement and new windows.

Construction was complete in May 2011.
