Description

The Children's Hospital is a state-of-the-art 14-story health care facility dedicated to pediatric care. It includes neo-natal and pediatric intensive care units, patient rooms, emergency room, radiology department, and surgery/procedure rooms. The building was designed to maximize efficiency and convenience for the users while minimizing the impact on the environment. Spectrum Health plans to seek LEED certification for the building.

The construction of the Children's Hospital involved an extensive use of Building Information Modeling or "BIM." An evolving technology, BIM combines the use of cutting-edge technology with the collaborative efforts of the owner and design and construction teams in developing a 3-D model of the building. BIM was used extensively in the Michigan Street pedestrian bridge, which will link the Children's Hospital to the main parking ramp across the street.
